After the ashes …

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

One last chance for a few posts before baby piccolino hits the headlines!! Firstly didn’t want our Aussie friends to think we had forgotten them after our Ashes triumph … but have to conceed that we got well and trully stuffed in the one-dayers … very depressing …  Went to Lords for the 4th match with England already 3 down …lords0001.jpg cricket was very poor but at least I got Michael Atherton to sign my copy of his book on our Ashes triumph! (Annie/Dennis - let me know how many copies you’d like me to get for you!!!!) atherton0001.jpg Then up to Nottingham for the 2 day-nighters at Trent Bridge. trentbridge0001.jpg Dianne there for her first game, also James Wood ever hopeful … dijames0001.jpg and June and Alicealice-0001.jpg and Sarah suitably wrapped up on a cold evening!sarah0001.jpgAt least there was a good atmosphere …trentbridge20001.jpg … and while in Nottingham just had to see the Cloughie statue ..cloughie0001.jpg… but don’t lets forget who won the main contest!!! (although I have a sneaking feeling it might just have been a bit different if our old friend Brett Lee had played in the Tests!!)

Another great day of Ashes cricket

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

We got some fantastic last minute tickets for Day 4 of the 3rd Test at Edgbaston, so John and I drove up and met James and Janine.  We were in the main pavilion right by where the players emerge and just along from where the Aussies were sitting.  John and I had a fabulous view of both the cricket and James and Janine in front of us. (James said that if he found anyone had put a pink ribbon on a copy of this he would not be amused - no idea what he meant!!)jamesjanine0001.jpg We saw some great cricket including great knock from Freddie.freddie0001.jpg and some good hitting from our two Notts lads (I had to get a picture of that nice young lad Stuart Broad for Dianne of course!)nottslads0001.jpgThe Aussies had two very impressive drinks waiters in Brett Lee and Stuart Clarke - (reckon it was just as well they weren’t playing!)drinks-waiters0001.jpgCouldn’t resist taking the picture of the bench where they were sitting - note the sign!disabled0001.jpgJames was determined to get his picture taken with Brett .. and if you look carefully you can see Janine taking the picture just along from where we were sitting … James - we need to see the picture!jamesphoto0001.jpg Then back with us looking very pleased with himself!jamesandjanine20001.jpgStrauss leading England off after a great days cricketendofgame0001.jpgSo thanks to Janine for somehow managing to get the tickets - what a day. …. and thank goodness something in me decided not to post these pictures when I got back but rather wait until after Day 5, so I’m glad I didn’t gloat, and risk a few comebacks from our friends in OZ!! Next instalment, tickets Day 3 and Day 4 at Headingley next week - watch this space … can’t wait … just hope Freddie stays fit!!!

A special post for our loyal and devoted Aussie readers!!

Well having just got back from the first two days of the Lords Test I thought I’d do a quick post given that we are currently stuffing the Aussies!!  Day 1 and the ground looking great from my seat in the Warner standday10001.jpg and I think if you look carefully we are 100 for 0 in our first inningsday10002.jpgThe weather on Day 2 was not great … believe it or not this was rain stopped play in the middle of a classic English summer day!rain0001.jpg but at least it was dry when the Queen met the two teams! Even she cant resist coming along to see the Aussies getting whipped!!queen0001.jpg.. and we even laid on a band to help celebrate!the-band0001.jpgSo at the end of Day 2 England 425 All out Australia 165 - 8 …. so far so good …. I just hope I haven’t been a bit premature with this post!!!!!

Test Match disaster

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

… whilst the Bunts were at the two weddings, Dianne, Bex and James had a super time babysitting Chloe. Meanwhile, I travelled  up to Leeds for the 2nd Test England vs South Africa with Suzanne and John.  Headingley looked great from our seats on the West terrace.test0001.jpg … but as you can see from James’s face, the cricket was not so great. (or was it the fact that his glass was empty!) test0002.jpg… but at least the oldies found something to laugh about … or maybe it was the Tetleys bitter!test0003.jpg England got hammered …. which is not very encouraging thinking about next summer’s Ashes Test series vs Oz. How am I going to face Anne and Dennis - not forgetting Rob of course!!
